Nicola Sturgeon, first minister of Scotland is set to resign from her position. She has held the position for 8 years.
The politician made the announcement during a press conference in Edinburgh at her residence known as Bute House.
No reasons have been provided for the resignation of the first Minister.
Ms. Sturgeon has led the country and the party since 2014 after taking over from Alex Salmond. She effectively becomes the longest-serving first minister since devolution to Holyrood.
As first minster Ms Sturgeon has been pushing for Scottish independence and has campaigned for another referendum on the issue.
Recently, there has been differences of opinion within the political party on her approach to transgender rights.
