Egypt has reopened major tourist attractions in the country including the Great Pyramids of Giza following a three-month closure due to the pandemic, the BBC reports.
The pyramids were the first to be reopened, along with the Egyptian museum next to Cairo’s Tahrir square.
Egypt has also relaxed travel restrictions by restarting international flights.
Egypt’s tourism industry, which employs more than three million people has been hit hard by the pandemic.
Tourist attractions were closed in mid-March due to the pandemic.
The industry accounts for a fifth of the Gross Domestic Product.
A small number of visitors were spotted on the first day at the normally packed site of Giza.
The Egyptian authorities are hoping more visitors can fly to the sites after the country eased travel restrictions.
More than 68,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Egypt with the virus claiming 3,000 lives.
