It has been over three decades and now Eddie Murphy is signing a deal to star in a sequel that will be scripted by Kenya Barris.
In the previous film, Eddie Murphy acted as Prince Akeem. The plans for the sequel were announced for the first time in 2017. That was 29 years since the first movie was released in 1988. The comedy film was directed by Jonathan Levine. At that time the original screenwriters were ready to start working on the sequel but the work did not commence.
“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen” Murphy said in a statement.
