After long hours of debate by US legislators, President Donald Trump has now been impeached as President and Commander-in-chief of the United States. This happened on Wednesday night.
To say the least, this is an historic move. In fact, the House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against President Trump. Evidence shows that the lawmakers voted along party lines.
In total, there were 230 votes in support of impeachment from the Democrats and 197 Republicans voted against the impeachment.
One member of the House of Representatives, Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat and Presidential candidate declined to vote neither yay nor nay but voted present.
During the time of impeachment, Donald Trump was addressing a rally in Michigan. The Democrats are accusing Trump of abuse of power as we as obstruction of congress. He withdrew aid to Ukraine to force them to investigate Joe Biden who is his strong opponent for the forthcoming elections.
Trump is not the first US President to be impeached. He is the third. He is now expected to face Senate for a trial. It’s important to note that he may sail through considering that majority members of Senate are Republicans.
