Derby County players and staff have agreed to take wage deferrals to help the club during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Championship club did not reveal the percentage of wages being deferred.
The Rams issued a statement: ‘’Derby County Football Club has today confirmed that all first team players, football management, executive and non-furloughed staff have agreed to take wage deferrals as part of the ongoing response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
‘’First team players have voluntarily agreed a substantial deferral that is considerably more than that has been reported in the media, while Philip Cocu and his coaching team, and Chief Executive officer Stephen Pearce and his staff have also agreed significant deferrals.’’
The statement also acknowledged the roles played by team captain Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies, the Professional Footballers Association’s club representative.
‘’Talks across the club have been held in the spirit of unity and co-operation, and everyone has been fully committed to help and play their part. The club would specifically thank Wayne Rooney, the club captain, and Curtis Davies, the Professional Footballers Association’s club representative, for their help and support.’’
Other Championship sides that agreed wage deferrals include Wigan, Leeds United, Swansea City, Bristol City and Cardiff City.
Some Premier League clubs have also agreed wage deferrals. They include Sheffield United, Southampton and West Ham United. Arsenal players will take a 12.5% pay cut.
