Aliko Dangote is said to have invested $20  billion on construction of Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This is the largest single train refinery in the world with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day of crude oil.

 

Dangote Petroleum Refinery is located along Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria.

 

Crude oil is refined to produce diesel, petrol, jet fuel and kerosine.

 

Nigeria Midstream & Down Stream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has accused Dangote Petroleum Refinery of producing substandard products. Elsewhere the company is accused of becoming a monopoly in the oil and gas sector. In response, Aliko Dangote accused the regulator of allowing fuel traders to import high-sulphur gasoline.

 

On the other hand, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has stated that they are not able to receive sufficient crude oil for processing from Nigerian government.

 

In response to the ongoing saga, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered NNPC to sell crude oil to Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Naira.

Facts about Dangote Petroleum Refinery

Dangote Petroleum Refinery sits on 2,635  hectares of land which is equivalent to 6,511 acres. It has capacity to process 650,000 barrels of oil per day. It is located in Lekki Zone in Lagos. It’s Africa’s largest oil refinery and the largest single-train refinery in the world.

 

The pipeline infrastructure serving the oil refinery is the largest in the world covering 1,100 kilometers. It has a capacity to handle 3 billion cubic feet of gas per day.

It is alleged that the refinery has capacity to handle 100 percent of petroleum products needed by Nigerians and excess will be exported.

 

Once Dangote Petroleum Refinery is completed, it will create 135,000 permanent jobs.

 

Aliko Dangote is highly acclaimed by African leaders outside Nigeria. For instance, he was invited by President Brice Oligui Nguema of Gabon to discuss development opportunities in the west African nation.
