Czech Republic President Milos Zeman has called transgender people “disgusting” during a media interview. This was during a session on the controversial new law. Hungarian law prohibits all educational programs and materials for children from promoting gender reassignment, homosexuality and the deviation of sexuality from the one assigned to a person at birth. Other members of the European Union have protested this new law vehemently.
The President responded and said that their opposition is an interference in internal affairs of the Czech republic. He further stated that this is a major political mistake.
“I can understand gays, lesbians and so on. But do you know who I do not understand at all? These transgender people.” The president added. He described transgender people as being “intrinsically disgusting to me.”
Advocacy groups fear that the Czech Republic could soon follow in the path of illiberal neighbors Poland and Hungary.
