France’s Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has announced that bars and restaurants will be allowed to reopen nationally, although Paris will have to be more careful.
They will reopen next week but staff and customers must wear face masks and maintain social distance.
No more than 10 people can sit at any one table.
Gatherings of more than 10 people remain banned but a ban on travelling more than 60miles (100km) has been lifted.
The virus has claimed more than 28,000 lives in France.
On Wednesday, the death toll rose by less than 100 for the seventh consecutive day.
Sporting activities in France were banned until at least September. Primary schools in most areas have already reopened. Plans are underway to reopen secondary schools.
