Officials in Chile have confirmed that Juana Zuniga, 111, has become the oldest patient in Chile to recover from Covid-19, BBC reports.
Ms Zuniga tested positive for coronavirus in April after an outbreak at her care home. Seven staff and 18 residents – among them Ms Zuniga returned a positive result.
She suffered respiratory problems before the pandemic but the virus did not affect her badly.
The care home’s director confirmed that Ms Zuniga was asymptomatic. She was isolated after she tested positive.
She has been staying at the care home for 6 years now. The care home is near the capital, Santiago.
Ms Zuniga spent four weeks in the isolation ward under the care of the National Service for the Elderly.
Originally from Valparaiso, a city in the coast of Chile, Ms Zuniga, who never married or had any children, used to have her own business. She will turn 112 in July.
More than 82,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Chile, with the virus claiming more than 800 lives.
