The Minority Ndorobo and Ogiek communities are facing forced evictions from Chepkitale in Mt. Elgon Region.
The two communities have in the past held protests stating that the land is their ancestral home.
The national government is seeking to gazette Chepkitale Forest as a national reserve.
The forest is occupied by the Ndorobo and Ogiek communities.

If they’ve have adopted new lifestyles like cultivating land for food..then they need eviction. The ideal Ndorobos, Ogieks don’t farm.
These are indigenous communities whose livelihood comes from hunter and gathering. Evictions must follow the law and what we do not want is for their rights to be violated. They need to be give 3 months notice, be compensated and provided with alternative land for settlement.
However, you find that the evictions guidelines are not followed in many cases.
