The late Carl Levin served at the US Senate for 36 years hence he emerged the longest serving Michigan senator. This is a record to behold. 

 

Levin was a trained lawyer and served as the Chairperson of the Armed Services Committee. 

 

During his tenure at this esteemed committee, he helped make the US military strong and enacted various policies which guides the security sector today. 

 

As the longest serving Michigan senator, Levin, defended the auto industry. He also supported the bailout of the General Motors as well as Chrysler in the economic melti-down of 2008/2009. 

 

The longest serving Michigan senator fought the Pentagon over its overspending. He was known to many as “Mr. Integrity.” 

 

Carl Levin was born in 1934 in Detroit to one Saul and Bess Levin.
