Burundi’s cabinet has banned playing of secular music in public places during the one-week period of mourning announced by the government following the death of President Pierre Nkurunziza.
President Pierre Nkurunziza died of cardiac arrest on June 9 aged 55 years.
Freddy Mbonimpa, the mayor of Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura, said secular music is banned but people can play gospel music.
Mr Pierre Nkurunziza was an evangelical Christian.
Mr Mbonimpa said that all leisure activities were suspended during the mourning period.
Secular music in bars, restaurants, cars, hairdressing salons and other places where people gather was banned.
Only wedding parties, funerals and mourning wakes are allowed.
State Radio and private broadcasters continue to play gospel music as the country enters the fourth day of mourning.
President Uhuru Kenyatta directed on Friday that the Kenyan flags and the EAC flags be flown at half-mast at Public buildings in Kenya in the memory of the late President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza.
