Burundi Football Federation (BFF) has announced that they are ready to restart their league and cup competitions after May 20 elections.
Burundi’s domestic season is set to resume on 21st May, more than a month after Africa’s last remaining football competition was suspended to allow political campaigns to be held in stadia ahead of the general elections this month.
Most of Africa’s domestic leagues have been paused or cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
With three rounds of fixtures remaining, Le Messager sit on top of the league table, 4 points ahead of Musongati who have a game in hand to play.
BFF have also announced that the semi-finals and the final of the country’s domestic cup competition will be staged, with the final to be played on 13th June.
Before the campaign was halted, fans who attended games in Burundi were screened temperature and their hands sprayed with a disinfectant at the entrance to game venues.
A number of African countries have already ended their domestic seasons due to coronavirus, including Kenya, Mauritius, Angola, Liberia, Ethiopia and Guinea but others hope to continue in the coming months.
