It looks like the military has hijacked the civilian revolution against president Blaise Compaore’s attempt to run for another term in office after 27 years in power. This may be attributed to a weak opposition that has been suppressed by Blaise Compaore’s government.
African Union was not happy with the turn of events in Burkina Faso. They ordered the Burkina Faso to return the power to the civilian government within two weeks.

President Blaise Compaore resigned and ran to exile in Yamoussoukro, the capital city of Ivory Coast.

President Blaise Compaore took over power in 1987 after the Upright Man, Thomas Sankara was assassinated. Many people believe that president Blaise Compaore ordered the killing of Thomas Sankara. Since that time he has been able to win all elections. In 2000, the Burkina Faso constitution was changed and presidents were allowed only two terms in office. He was seeking the help of parliament to seek-reelection again in 2015.
