A British pensioner has lived in council housing for 70 years and he is not planning to move out despite plans to kick him out. Ken May, 69, from Wardley in New Castle has said that he is going nowhere despite an eviction notice from Gateshead Council.
He has been ordered to clear the garbage outside his council house. He is a retired merchant seaman who have been a tenant at the said house since 1955. Previously, he was using a petrol generator and was ordered to reconnect the house to the electricity grid. He was also ordered to clear rubbish thrown around the house.
Ken is accused of refusing to allow council staff into his home for inspection purposes. He argued through written submissions that he had a right to occupy the property under the UK law.
The judge who ruled on Ken’s case ordered him to pay £131 in warrant fees by August 8. Gateshead Council has not set a date for the planned eviction.
