Botswana has lifted a recently reinstated lockdown on its capital Gaborone after most of the reported coronavirus cases returned negative results.
The southern Africa country ended a 48-lockdown on May 21 and allowed businesses and schools to reopen but reinstated the lockdown in Gaborone on Friday night after 8 new cases were confirmed at one hospital.
On Monday, the health officials confirmed the patients were retested and most results turned negative.
‘’We ended up having a total of 16 new suspected local cases on Friday but from those, 10 have been confirmed to be negative whilst the results on the six remaining are still pending,” director of health services Malaki Tshipayagae said in a televised announcement.
“As a result the lockdown on the greater Gaborone region will be lifted at midnight today”, the official added.
