Black Panther is the top-earning movie by a black director. It is expected to earn more than $201.7 million this weekend in North America. According to the Box Office Mojo, the movie has earned more than the Deadpool in 2016, this makes it the biggest earning movie of all time. Black Panther is also expected to be the fifth highest earning opening weekend, and the second largest marvel debut behind the Avengers of 2012. The opening weekend sales are expected to be more than USD$387 million globally.
The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler and starred by Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Kaluuya, Michael Jordan, and others. It is the only Marvel movie by a black director so far and it features a majority of the black cast.
The Black Panther broke the records even before the release, the anticipation was high. According to Twitter, Black Panther was the ninth most-tweeted movie at the end of 2017. The movie was also received well by both the critics and fans. The movie has proved that the audience is eager for the diverse presentation, especially in the superhero films. This has broadened the scope of who can be the hero.
Theaters reported of selling out tickets before the movie was launched. Black Panther received reviews from critics with 100% fresh rating from the US review aggregator site.
One critic of Black Panther said that it has taken 18 films and a decade, Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced a superhero movie finally. The critics advise the consumers on what is worth spending on and what not to spend on depending on their interaction with the movie. The consumers decide on what to watch or purchase depending on the reviews.
