Sharing is Caring

Bill Clinton has been hospitalized at the University of California Irvine Medical Center’s ICU for a urinary tract infection that spread to his bloodstream.

The former president’s doctors told CNN on Thursday 14. Clinton was admitted to the ICU for safety and privacy not because he need the intensive care services. He is in good spirits talking to staff and family. He has been walking according to his staff.

Dr. Alpesh Amin, chair of medicine at UC Irvine Medical Center and Dr. Lisa Bardack – Clinton’s personal doctor- released a joint statement which read as follows:

“He was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids. He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring.

“After two days of treatment, his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well. We hope to have him go home soon.”

The doctors stated that urologic infections are very common among older people and they are easy to treat. They can also spread to the bloodstream quickly. Clinton was treated with intravenous antibiotics until Friday 15. After which he may be switched to oral antibiotics.

Bill Clinton left the White House in 2001. Since then he has faced a number of health scares including a quadruple surgery in 2004. In 2005 he received treatment for a collapsed lung while in 2010 he has a pair of stents implanted in a coronary artery.
