A man and his wife were mauled to death and their bodies were eaten by a sloth bear in a forest.
Mukesh Rai and his wife Gudiya were walking home through a a forest in Panna, India, when they came across the bear.
The couple allegedly attempted to confront the bear before they were brutally attacked at around 6:30 am on Sunday, June 5.
According to reports, the bear dragged their bodies towards a river and ate them for 4 hours.
Police arrived in the area and it took them another two hours before being able to capture the bear after tranquilizing it.
The family members of the couple were compensated with 400,000 Rupee and the bear was transported to a zoo.
“The animal will not be released in the forest and we plan to send it to some zoo in another city,” said the Divisional Forest Officer Gaurav Sharma to DNA India.
