Midfielder Javi Martinez was Bayern Munich’s hero as the Spaniard came off the bench to score an extra-time winner in the 2-1 Super Cup win over Sevilla.
Bayern struggled to score against Sevilla, who had been unbeaten since February – a run that included a triumph in the Europa League.
Sevilla opened the scoring through Lucas Ocampos penalty in the 13th minute.
Leon Goretzka levelled the scores in the 34th minute.
Sevilla made a great start to extra-time with Bayern in all sorts of trouble, as Ocampos had a shot blocked while En-Nesyri’s shot clipped the post after crashing off Neuer’s leg.
Martinez, who also scored in the 2013 Super Cup, headed the winner five minutes after coming on.
A small number of fans were allowed into the Puskas Arena to watch the Super Cup final
Bayern Munich have now gone 32 games without a defeat. It was their 23rd win in a row.
