Bayer Leverkusen players, staff and management agreed on Wednesday to take unspecified pay cut during the Coronavirus epidemic.
The German Bundesliga was suspended over fears of spread of the deadly virus.
Leverkusen captain Lars Bender confirmed that discussions had taken place in the last few weeks and an agreement had been reached on Tuesday.
‘’The team is ready to waive part of the salaries in order to support the cliub in its efforts to financially overcome the Coronavirus crisis.’’ Said Bender.
‘’We again got a very concrete idea in the empty Bay Arena Stadium today about how important the various colleagues are breathing life into the club and how important each and every one of them is in providing us with ideal conditions to do our job.’’ He added.
Other Bundesliga sides where players have agreed to take pay cuts include Bayern Munchen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin.
The German Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga was suspended by the German Football League (DFL) until at least end of April.
