Barclays bank recently launched a subsidiary specifically for stock trading called Barclays Financial Services Limited. During the launch, the Barclays Bank of Kenya Managing Director Mr. Jeremy Awori stated that this is part of the bank’s strategy to link its 340,000 experts working across the continent in 10 countries. This is expected to introduce new financial services and products to the Vibrant financial market in Kenya.
Geoffrey Odundo, the Chief Executive Officer of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) stated that the strategy will improve local accessibility to services of capital markets.
Through the subsidiary, Kenyans will enjoy services of a new research portal called Barclays Live which will provide data, analytic tools and global research on commodities across several sectors.
The company is fully owned by Barclays Bank Kenya and is planning to have desks in 9 other countries. These are: Zambia, South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania and Uganda among others.
