Laliga giants FC Barcelona have completed the controversial signing of Martin Braithwaite from Leganes after they were granted permission to sign the player outside the usual transfer period.
The Laliga champions were given permission to sign Braithwaite after long-term injuries to forwards Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.
Barca signed Braithwaite on Tuesday for €18M on a contract that runs all the way to 2024 with a buyout clause of €300M.
The 28-year-old Danish has scored 6 times for the relegation-threatened Leganes in 24 appearances.
The move for Braithwaite raised questions on how FC Barcelona were able to draft in reinforcements with the transfer period closed.
Leganes, who sit 19th in the Laliga table had an appeal to sign a replacement of their departing player turned down as signing a replacement does not comply with rules in Spain.
The struggling outfit also saw forward Youssef En-Nesyri join Sevilla during the January transfer window.
Braithwaite joined Leganes in 2019 from Championship club Middlesbrough.
FC Barcelona are second in the Spanish Laliga table, one point behind leaders Real Madrid.
