Bundesliga club Augsburg have dismissed Head Coach Martin Schmidt after a less than a year at the helm.
The Swiss tactician was appointed in April 2019 last year and guided Augsburg to safety as the club finished 15th.
Augsburg are now 5 points above relegation play-off following a run of 5 games without a win.
Sunday’s 2-0 loss to giants Bayern Munich was his last game in charge. He has been sacked alongside his assistant Stefan Sartori.
Augsburg Sporting Director Stefan Reuter said: ‘‘This decision was not an easy one for us, but based on a record of just four points from nine matches, we decided to make a change in the coaching position. There will always phases that have to be overcome. In the current situation, however, we see our goal of staying on the league as endangered, so we came to this decision.’’
Schmidt wished Augsburg all the best.
‘’I accept the decision of the club management and thank them for the trust and the opportunity that I received here. The club is bigger than everyone. I therefore wish Augsburg all the best and hope that the turnaround will succeed.’’
