Atletico Madrid have announced that defender Sime Vrsaljko has undergone a surgery on his left knee.
The Croatia international has had an arthroscopic procedure done to remove a material following an operation to repair ligament damage last season.
The 28-year-old will begin recovery on Friday. The club has however not revealed the timescale for his return to action.
Reports in Spain suggest that the full-back should be fit when La Liga resumes next month.
‘’Vrsaljko underwent an arthroscopy on his left knee at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra in Madrid,’’ Atletico said in a statement.
‘’The procedure consisted the extraction of osteosynthesis material from the ligament surgery he underwent 16 months ago.
‘’The Croatian is to immediately begin the recovery phase on Friday with physiotherapy treatment and readaptation sessions.’’
Vrsaljko has only made 7 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side this season.
Atletico aquad is already back in training ahead a proposed resumption of La Liga next month.
