Aston Villa have completed the signing of forward Bertrand Traore from Ligue 1 club Lyon.

Reports indicate that the Villans have paid around £17m plus £2m in add-ons to sign the Burkina Faso international.

Traore, 25, has signed a four-year deal at Villa Park.

He becomes Aston Villa’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Ollie Watkins from Brentford, Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest and Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal.

Traore joined Lyon from Chelsea in 2017 for £9.2M. He made a total of 126 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 33 goals.

“I’m very happy to join Aston Villa,” he told VillaTV.

“I’m happy to be here.”

“I played with John Terry at Chelsea, I spoke to him,” He added.

“I spoke to the Manager, spoke with the Sporting Director as well and some players I used to play with – Nakamba and El Ghazi.

“I spoke to Nakamba, I talked to him a little bit about the club.

“Many things made me take the decision to come here.

“I’m happy.”

Traore is excited to return to the Premier League.

“I’m excited to be back (in England),” Traore said.

“I always wanted to come back to the Premier League.

“I had to follow my own way as well and gain some more experience.

“I think it is the right time to come back.

“I think I’m coming back as a better player, with more experience.

“And this is the right place for me to come back. It’s good.”

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith told the club’s website: “We’re delighted that Bertrand has chosen to come to Villa. He’s a player with immense talent who will really enhance our attacking options.”
