Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper Alex Runarsson from French side Dijon on a four-year deal.
The 25-year-old Iceland international joined Dijon in July 2018 and made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club in the 2019-20 season.
The Gunners were left short of a back-up goalkeeper after Emiliano Martinez left to join Aston Villa last week.
Technical director Edu told Arsenal’s website: “We’re very pleased to welcome Alex to our squad. We have been monitoring him for some time and from the analysis, he has strong attributes that we look for in a goalkeeper and as a person.”
Manager Mikel Arteta added: “We want to create healthy competition for places and we look forward to seeing Alex bring further depth to the goalkeeping position.”
Runarsson will wear the number 13 shirt at Arsenal.
