Paris Saint Germain and Spain midfielder Ander Herrera was one of the 36 players who were cleared of match fixing by a Spanish court on Monday.
The former Manchester United midfielder, along with former Atletico Madrid captain Gabi and Leganes coach Javier Aguirre were investigated in suspicion of sporting corruption in relation to a Laliga match between Real Zaragoza and Levante in the 2010/2011 season.
Real Zaragoza won the match to avoid relegation though they were accused of paying Levante players €965,000 to lose the match.
A court in Valencia cited lack of evidence and all the 41 people who stood trial have been cleared of the charges though two former Real Zaragoza officials were convicted of fraud.
Former Real Zaragoza Financial Director Javier Porquera and Ex-President Agapito Iglesias were found culpable of spending more than €1.7M from Zaragoza’s accounts to pay relegation bonuses. The two were given 15-month prison sentence.
