Ligue 1 side Amiens have launched a petition to demand justice after they were relegated from Ligue 1 before the 2019/2020 campaign could be completed.

The French government banned all sporting activities until at least September because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

The ban brought to an end the 2019/2020 season and Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain were awarded the title. Amiens and Toulouse were relegated from Ligue 1.

Amiens were 19th in the Ligue 1 table, 10 points ahead of Toulouse with 10 rounds of games left to play.

A statement from the club read: “Amiens is launching a petition to demand justice for this very consequential decision which goes against sporting fair play.’’

The petition asks the French football governing body to reconsider its decision to relegate the two clubs and instead play the league with 22 teams instead of 20 in the 2020/2021 football season.

Lorient and Lens were promoted to Ligue 1.
