Amado was born on December 17, 1956 and died on July 3, 1997. He was a drug Lord from Mexico. He controlled the Juarez Cartel after killing its boss Rafael Aguilar Guajardo. Amado was commonly known as “Lord of the Skies” because he owned a large fleet of planes that he used in transporting his drugs. He did money laundering through Colombia which was used to finance his fleet of planes.
Amado Carrillo died in a hospital in Mexico as he was undergoing an extensive plastic surgery. This was aimed at changing his appearance because he was being tracked by both the US and Mexican authorities.
He is considered to be one of the wealthiest criminals in history. His was worth US$25 billion when he died.
Carrillo was the firstborn in a family of 11 siblings. Amado was trained in the business of drug dealing by his uncle Ernesto. He in turn trained his brothers and a son.
He was in charge of cocaine shipments in Ojinaga. He was a member of the Guadalajara Cartel.

He was using 27 private jets to do the transportation. This earned him the “Lord of the Skies” title. All his planes were Boeing 727 jet liners. He was exporting millions of tons of cocaine into Manhattan. Near the end of his life Carrillo was always travelling in his private jets to Russia and Cuba among other countries in search of a safe haven.
Anti-drug agents credited him as the most sophisticated, low-key and diplomatic drug lord. At times he formed alliances with other trafficking groups for more efficiency.
