Aitor Karanka has been appointed the new head coach of Championship club Birmingham City.
The Spanish tactician replaces Pep Clotet, who was sacked with four games of the Championship remaining.
Karanka has signed a three-year contract with the Blues.
Karanka led Middlesbrough to earn a promotion to the Premier League in 2015-16 season before leaving in 2017.
He spent a year at Nottingham Forest before departing in January 2019.
Karanka told Birmingham website: ‘’I am delighted to be joining a club with the history of the fanbase that Birmingham City has.
‘’I share the excitement and determination of everyone here to start working together on all the challenges that lie ahead.’’
Birmingham finished two places above the relegation zone.
Karanka worked as an assistant coach under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
