Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has undergone a knee surgery in in Barcelona.
Aguero sustained the injury during Monday’s 5-0 Premier League win over Burnley.
City boss Pep Guardiola told reporters on Wednesday that his top scorer would be operated by his preferred surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat, who treated City players including Benjamin Mendy, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevid De Bruyne.
Shortly after the news conference, Aguero tweeted a photo of himself in hospital bed, saying the surgery had already been carried out.
‘’Everything went on well and I’ll soon begin recovery,’’ the Argentine wrote.
‘’A big thanks to Dr Cugat and his team – and to all of you for your support.’’
Recovery from a meniscus surgery ranges between four to six weeks, meaning Aguero could be back for the closing stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Aguero will however miss City’s remaining Premier League games.
Manchester City hold a 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid after one leg of the last-16 of the Champions League.
Should Pep Guardiola’s side proceed, they’ll take part in an eight-team tournament in Lisbon between August 12 and 23.
The tournament will comprise one-off quarter-final, semi-final and final matches.
Aguero has scored 16 times in 24 league appearances this season. He’ll miss the rest of the Premier League season meaning his streak of scoring at least 20 goals in the PL for the last five campaigns will come to an end.
