The Prime Minister, Adil Abdul Mahdi, has agreed to resign only on condition that they find a suitable person to replace him to avoid a leadership vacuum.
This announcement was made by the President of Iraq, Barham Salih. CNN reported than an excess of 200 people have been killed since the start of October, 2019.
People have vowed that they will not stop until the PM resigns.
The protests which happened in most of October were triggered by corruption, unemployment and inadequate access to basic services such as water and electricity.
Protesters in Baghdad attempted to enter the Green Zone, but were not able to go past a bridge which gives access to the area.
The Green Zone is home to a number of foreign embassies, parliament and other government offices.
