Monkey pox outbreak. There have been more than 18,000 cases of monkey pox reported globally from 78 countries, with the majority in Europe, the World Health Organization has said. The WHO Director General urged the infected people reduce the number of new sexual partners.

 

The WHO has said that 98% of cases reported in countries outside Africa comprises of men who have sex with fellow men. This comes after the UN declare monkey pox a global health emergency.

 

“This is an outbreak that can be stopped… The best way to do that is to reduce the risk of exposure, that means making safe choices for yourself and others.” The director said.

 

On the other hand, the Director added that the name of the virus will be changed in order to avoid the use of the name in racist way or being weaponized. According to WHO the vaccine will be out in several weeks and cautioned people to take precaution.

 

Some of the symptoms experienced after one gets infected with monkey virus include; fever, fatigue and painful skin lesions.
