A space start-up named Astra has experienced its first test rocket come crashing back to earth after flying for 30 seconds in Alaska.
The rocket was 38-foot in height and it took off from the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak. The rocket hit the ground and exploded just after 30 seconds of flying. The take off was at 7:19 pm on Friday.
“Successful lift off and fly out, but the flight ended during the first-stage burn. It does look like we got a good amount of nominal flight time. More updates to come!” Astra tweet.
The start-up was faced with problems with sensors lead to the failure of the rocket launch attempt. SpaceX founded by Elon Musk took four trials before successfully sending a rocket into orbit.
Rocket Lab, is the current market leader when it comes to launching rockets into space. The company charges $7.5 million per flight while Astra says that its rockets will cost $1 million per flight.
