Kenyan Athlete Abraham Kiptum has been handed a four year ban by Athletics Integrity Unit after failing a doping test.

AIU issued a statement on Monday that showed that Abraham Kiptum violated the anti-doping rules in connection to the abnormalities in the hematological module of his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) which indicates use of a prohibited method or substance.

Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) consists of a record that has an athlete’s tests and results over a certain period of time.

Abraham Kiptum responded saying he had never used any prohibited substance or method and relied on history of negative urine tests taken in the period of his ABP review. However, AIU came to a conclusion that Kiptum tested positive for prohibited substances.

The 30 year old athlete will now face a four year ban that will back dated to April 26th when he was provisionally suspended.

In addition to that, all his results between October 13th 2018 and April 26th 2019 will be disqualified including forfeiture of titles, medals, awards, prize and money.

Kiptum, who hails from Nandi County, will lose his 2018 Valencia half marathon title where he had set a record previously held on October 28.
