Sharing is Caring

A generous philanthropist has left money for cats in France. These were the unusual beneficiaries in his will.

It is estimated that 50 cats live in the famous St. Petersburg museum.

At least 3 million works of art are displayed at the museum.

The building has hosted cats since the reign of  Empress Elizabeth (1741 – 1961).

According to Catherine the Great, the cats were introduced to the Museum’s basement to deal with the rodents and hence safeguard the galleries.

The cats are maintained using donations from well wishers. The cats are attended by a local vet and they have their own washing machine.
