Former Namibian president Sam Nujoma has died aged 95.

He was the first president of Namibia after it won its independence in 1990.

 

This announcement was made by President Nangolo Mbumba in his media statement.

 

Sam Nujoma was born to poor farmers in Ovambo tribe and he was the eldest of 10 children.

 

Ex president Sam Nujoma went into exile in 1960 and at the same time he was elected to lead South West People’s Organization (SWAPO).

 

Sam Nujoma became president in 1990 and served until 2005.
