India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has set history for reading the 8th consecutive union budget.
She holds record for the longest budget speech delivered on 1st February 2020. It lasted for 2 hours 40 minutes.
The Finance Minister is alumina of Jawaharlal Nehru University in India.
She was born on 18th August 1959 in a place called Madurai Tamil Nadu.
The India Finance Minister graduated in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College.
Later she graduated with a Master’s in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.
As part of her career, she worked as a senior manager in charge of research and analysis at Price Waterhouse in London.
She worked also with the bbc world Service while in London.
On her return to India, she worked as the Deputy Director of Centre for Public Policy Studies at Hyderbad.
She also served as a member of National Commission for women from 2003 to 2005.
She joined politics by becoming a member of Bhartiya Janata Party in 2008. On March 2010 she was nominated as party spokesperson and on 26th May 2014 she was nominated as Cabinet Minister.
