Kithure Kindiki has been nominated by President William Ruto to take over from former Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President.
Kithure Kindiki EGH is the current Cabinet Secretary for Interior. He will have to be approved by the National Assembly before he is confirmed as Deputy President.
The professor of International law is an advocate of High Court of Kenya and the International Criminal Court (ICC). He earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University and a Diploma in Legal Studies from Kenya School of Law.
Kindiki holds a Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law from and a doctorate in International Law both from University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Between 2003 and 2005 he served as a lecturer of Moi University. Later he served as a Dean School of Law at Moi University.
Previously, Kithure Kindiki studied at Irunduni Primary School and Lenana School in Nairobi. He scored grade C in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Kithure Kindiki repeated form four at Tharaka Boys High School since he did not meet the cut off points for joining University in Kenya.
He was first elected as a Senator for Tharaka Nithi County in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. During his first term as Senator, Kithure Kindiki was the Majority leader and Deputy Speaker of Senate from August 2017 to 2020.
The former Cabinet Secretary is a member of the Law Society of Kenya as well as ICJ-Kenya.
