Kenyan Senator, Gloria Orwoba, has called for banning X Corporation formerly Twitter in Kenya.
Senator Gloria Orwoba referred to the case of Brazil which ordered the ban on X for refusing to take down accounts and posts which violates the laws in Brazil. Brazil claimed that the posts were on hate speech, disinformation and misinformation.
Senator Gloria Orwoba claimed that equally X Corporation is being used for misinformation, disinformation and hate speech in Kenya.
“Social media has been used to attack innocent persons including revealing critical information of the victims in violation of the Data Protection Act. This worrying trend should be dealt with urgently to deter the perpetrators,” Gloria Orwoba statement read in part.
She further called upon X Corporation to establish a customer care service within Kenya to handle complaints.
