A SpaceX Dargon capsule was chosen by NASA to transport astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore back to Earth. These two were stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) more than their planned 4 weeks trip.

The two astronauts were transported to the International Space Station by Boeng’s Starliner which developed helium leaks and multi-functioning thrusters hence  was considered too risky to transport the crew back to Earth. On September 6, the Starliner returned to earth leaving behind the two.

SpaceX’s Crew-9 arrived at the ISS at 5:30 pm ET on Sunday. On board of the capsule was Nick Hague of NASA and Aleksandr Gorbunovo of Russian Cosmonaut. Two seats were left unoccupied so as to transport Suni Williams and Wilmore when the capsule returns to Earth in February 2025.

Hague and Gorbunov launched on Saturday from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
