The four civilians who were involved became the first non-government astronauts to conduct a spacewalk.
Spacewalk is also known as Extravehicular Activity (EVA). The dragon was depressurized and exposed to the vacuum of space. This was part of the five-day journey through the earth’s orbit.
The mission has already set records because the human traveled further into space since NASA’s Apollo program which happened half a century ago.
The crew mates were Jared Isaacman, Scott Poteet, Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis.
Isaacman was the first astronaut to exit the hatch. Gillis and Isaacman were the only two crew-members to exit the spacecraft for a period of 20 minutes.
The Polaris Dawn crew were able to see sunrise and sunset every 106 minutes.
The Crew Dragon capsule spent about two hours exposed to space with the hatch open. The only fear they had was failure to re-pressurize the spacecraft after the spacewalk.
The crew spent a couple of more days in space conducting a list of experiments which was part of the mission. Some of the research includes dealing with biological challenges faced by humans when floating in a spacecraft.
Crew Dragon spacecraft returned to earth in the early hours of Sunday. Their space trip lasted about 5 days.
