World Health Organization has cleared the world’s first ever mpox vaccine for use.
The vaccine is called MVA-BN vaccine which will be added to its pre-qualification list.
The MVA-BN is manufactured by Bavarian Nordic A/S.
“The MVA-BN vaccine can be administered in people over 18-years of age as a 2-dose injection given 4 weeks apart. After prior cold storage, the vaccine can be kept at 2–8°C for up to 8 weeks,” WHO reports on its website.
More than 103,000 cases of MPox have been confirmed in 120 countries across the world. In 2024 alone there were 723 deaths associated to mpox reported.
