The acting Inspector General of Police Mr. Gilbert Masengeli has been sentenced by a Kenyan court to 6 months in prison.

The acting police boss failed to appear in court seven times.

The sentence was passed by High Court judge Lawrence Mugambi.

“Mr Masengeli is ordered to surrender himself to the Commissioner General of Prisons to serve his sentence. In the event he fails to surrender himself to prison, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior must take steps to ensure he is committed to prison to serve his sentence,” ruled Justice Mugambi.

Mr. Gilbert Masengeli was expected to appear in court to explain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 3 persons who disappeared in Kitengela on 19th August.

Justice Mugambi revealed that the acting Inspector General of police can escape serving the jail sentence if he appears in court within the next seven days.
