Understatement of Parking Fees in Nakuru County
Reports available from the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) reveals that there was understatement of Vehicle Parking Fees in Nakuru County. A total of Ksh. 292.4 million was collected by the county out of a target of Ksh. 265 million. This was over performance or the target may have been set too low. As at 30 June 2016 there was no data to show the number of parking slots in each of the eleven sub-counties in Nakuru County.
Nakuru East Sub County contributed the largest portion of parking fees amounting to Ksh. 214 million. This must be a very busy sub-county in Nakuru County.
The officers from the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) conducted an analysis and revealed that out of the Ksh. 292.4 million collected from vehicle parking fees, Ksh. 248.4 million was supported. This means that Ksh. 33.6 million was unexplained.
The analysis further explained that the variance was caused by omission of Ksh. 7.3 million and Ksh. 21.7 million collected from Tuktuks and reserved parking respectively.
