Somalia athlete has set record as the slowest-ever. Somali sports officials have come under fire for selecting Nasro Abukar Ali, a female athlete for being unfit and underqualified to compete and represent the nation at the prestigious World University Games 2023.
Somalia athlete Nasra came in last during the 100 meters race at the 31st Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China. The event happened on 1st August 2023. Nasro Abukar Ali has set a record for the slowest finish in the Games history.
The video of the race went viral on the internet and many people have raised questions on why Somalia sent an athlete who was unfit for the major event.

It is alleged that Abukar is the niece of Somali Athletics vice-President Khadija Adan Dahir. The selection process has also been questions with allegations that it was filled with mismanagement and favouritism. There were also claims that Nasro was selected to represent Somalia in order to get a Schengen Visa and seek asylum in Europe.
The chairwoman of Somali’s Athletics federation has now been suspended because it was discovered that athlete was her niece.
