On May 26, 2023, the Ogiek indigenous peoples of Kenya’s Mau Forest commemorated the 6th anniversary of their case ruling by the African Court based in Arusha.
As part of the commemoration, participants planted trees. The planting of trees is to ensure the event is not forgotten. This is an ancient tradition is practiced around the world.
Commemorative trees are also planted during special days such as birthdays and other special events. They are also planted in memory of the dead.
