Sharing is Caring

Following the abuse of Canadian indigenous children that happened in catholic residential schools, Pope Francis has departed to Canada to apologize. Francis started his journey on Sunday and is said to stay in Canada for one week.

He will be welcome on Sunday by  Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister and Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada.

The Pope will meet the indigenous groups to discuss the erasure of indigenous culture in the country following the long call of the indigenous leaders. The indigenous leaders wanted an apology for the abuse of their indigenous children. In British Columbia and Saskatchewan, hundreds of unmarked graves were discovered in the former residential school grounds last year.more than 4,000 indigenous children died due to abuse in residential schools most of which were under Catholic leadership.

“sorrow and shame for the role that a number of Catholics, particularly those with educational responsibilities, have had in all these things that wounded you, in the abuses you suffered and in the lack of respect shown for your identity, your culture and even your spiritual values.” The Pope told the indigenous leaders.

The 85-year-old Pope had his earlier trip to Africa due to knee issues. He plans to visit Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

“I would like to go, it is possible that I manage to go to Ukraine. The first thing is to go to Russia to try to help, but I would like to go to both capitals,” Pope said
