It is suspected that sergeant John Lekidayo and constable Kelvin Kinyua, have been involved in the robbery of goods worth Ksh. 600,000. The two police officers have been arrested.
They were arrested following preliminary investigations into the incident where a lorry carrying hardware materials was held and robbed on Thursday morning.
The two police officers are based at Nkubu police station. The DCI revealed that the lorry in question was headed for Tharaka Nithi from Isiolo. It was blocked by four people who identified themselves as police officers.
The four then handcuffed the lorry driver, Morris Nyaga, and his two loaders Bonface Orito and David Kuyo. They claimed that the lorry was transporting counterfeit products.
“They were bundled into the white Toyota fielder that had been used to block the lorry, leaving it in the hands of two strangers who had arrived with the two officers turned suspects. The vehicle then took off towards Kacibine market in Imenti central, where the three were dumped,” wrote DCI.
Investigations were conducted by Kiagu police station which revealed that the Toyota Fielder belonged to sergeant Lekidayo.
In order to identify the other suspects involved in the incident, a rifle which was allegedly used in the robbery has been turned over to the forensics unit.
The lorry which was transporting the goods was later found abandoned and empty.
